From New Haven to Stonington, the Connecticut shoreline runs north of Long Island along Long Island Sound to the Rhode Island border in the east. Available fish Striped Bass: Although available to fish year round, the prime season for striped bass is May and June. As the waters warm up in early spring, the stripers begin showing up in huge numbers. The striped bass remain in these waters through November. Bluefish: The warm summer waters find the aggressive bluefish biting at almost anything you throw in the water. June through August is the best time to fish for blues. These hard-fighting fish are sure to give any angler a thrill. Bluefish are available year round. Bottom Fish: Common catches while bottom fishing include fluke and winter flounder—fun fish to catch and delicious fish to eat! Beautiful black sea bass are almost always biting. In Spring and Fall, the feisty tautog, or blackfish, are a local favorite. Shark: Further out, in the waters near Montauk, NY, is some of the world’s best shark fishing. Fast and powerful Mako shark, thresher shark and blue shark are common catches on a shark fishing charter. Doing battle with the ocean’s apex predator is an unsurpassed thrill that an adventure loving angler will never forget.
