Stuart is home to the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center, a huge aquatic center featuring many tanks of local sea creatures including a game fish lagoon, stingray tank, children’s activity pavilion, and other colorful and interesting aquarium tanks.  Stuart is also home to the St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park on Jupiter Island, a stunning natural mangrove and barrier island setting.  Accessible by boat from Stuart, the park is full of flora and fauna and is a popular nesting site for several species of endangered sea turtles. Reef and wreck fishing is great for several species of grouper, sea bass, triggerfish, and snapper.  Inshore fishing is great for tarpon, snook, trout, sheepshead, black drum, and pompano, jacks, mackerel, and bluefish along the beaches and near shore.
