Tamarindo is located on the northwest side of the Nicoya Peninsula along Costa Rica’s stunning Pacific Coast.  Tamarindo is world renowned for its spectacular billfishing and catches of giant yellowfin tuna.  Tamarindo also enjoys beautiful beaches that offer world class water sports including: surfing, scuba, snorkeling, windsurfing, jet skiing, and sailing.  Two nearby beaches are nesting grounds for the giant leatherback turtle and guided tours are available to see these wonderful animals as they come to shore to lay their eggs.  A jungle boat tour through the mangrove is another fun activity available in Tamarindo where you have an opportunity to see many kinds of wildlife including monkeys, crocodiles, exotic birds, and iguanas.  Other activities enjoyed in Tamarindo include horseback riding, ATV tours, world class golf, or a relaxing spa.  Tamarindo is a friendly community with restaurants serving wonderful fresh local seafood, fruits, and vegetables and great hospitality.  There are hotels, bed and breakfasts, condominiums and beach houses available to fit anyone’s budget and taste.  The fishing in Tamarindo is not to be beat.

Sansa Air and Nature air have several flights a day to Tamarindo from San Jose’s Juan Santamaria Airport which has service from many large airlines including: American, Continental, Air Canada, Delta, Frontier, Mexicana and more, making it very accessible.  It is a 4 or 5 hour drive from San Jose on a beautifully paved, scenic highway, and rental cars are available from the airport as well. Tamarindo is Costa Rica’s closest location to the Continental shelf, making for fantastic deep water fishing year round.  Species caught in these waters include: sailfish, blue marlin, black marlin, striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, dorado (mahi-mahi), and wahoo.  Inshore fishing is also great in Tamarindo for roosterfish, snapper, grouper, amberjack, and spotted mackerel.

The continental shelf off of Tamarindo is just a 20 minute boat ride making it an ideal spot for anglers who want to catch pelagic species.  Black marlin and blue marlin are caught year round with the best fishing found November through March.  Sailfish are also caught year round with the best time of year being May through August.  Dorado is best May through October.  Yellowfin tuna is great for anglers to catch year round while the peak season for wahoo is July and August.  Inshore fishing for roosterfish, snapper, grouper, amberjack, and spotted mackerel is consistently good year round.  Tamarindo is sunny 365 days a year with the rainy season peaking in September and October.  Afternoon and early evening rains make for spectacular sunsets.  Daytime temperatures in Tamarindo range from the mid 80’s to mid 90’s with evening lows in the 70’s.
