Venice, Florida is a charming city located south of Sarasota on Florida’s gorgeous Gulf Coast.  Named for the city in Italy, Venice, Florida has an old world Italian style charm.  Venice boast 14 miles of beautiful beaches, many of them secluded and uncrowded that are great for sunbathing, shell hunting, swimming, water sports, and shark tooth hunting.  Venice, Florida is known as the “Shark Tooth Capital of the World” for the large number of prehistoric shark teeth found on its sparkling sandy beaches and hosts an annual Shark Tooth Festival. Popular water sports include surfing and boogie boarding, kayaking, and scuba. The local community is very friendly and makes visitors feel right at home.

Venice offers several challenging golf courses as well.  Downtown Venice has a historic Main Street shopping district featuring many shops, boutiques, antique shops, and restaurants.  Travel along Venice Avenue through downtown to revel in the graceful Italian architecture.  Venice is well known for outstanding seafood, but dining options are varied and range from seafood to Cuban, Latin fusion, Mexican, Indian, southern barbecue, and, of course, Italian.  Whether in the mood for fine dining, or casual beachfront fare, Venice has restaurants to suit every taste and budget.  Nightlife has a casual, quiet charm with several lounges and bars, some offering live music.

Venice is within 1 hour of Tampa, Ft. Myers, and Sarasota; and within 2 hours of Orlando so the big city attractions are easily within reach for a day trip while returning to the peaceful, laid back atmosphere of one of Florida’s true small town gems.The nearest major airports are the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, 22 miles away, and the Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft. Myers, 57 miles south.

The warm waters of the Gulf Coast make Venice a well known location for great fishing.  Offshore fish species caught off Venice, Florida include grouper, snapper, dolphin (mahi-mahi), kingfish, tuna, amberjack, Spanish mackerel, shark, barracuda, and bonito.  Inshore species include tarpon, snook, redfish, and barracuda.

Venice, Florida has a great tropical climate with year round sunshine.  High temperatures range from the low to mid 70’s in winter to the high 80’s to low 90’s is the summer.  The heaviest rainfall occurs in the summer months from June to September.  Charter fishing from Venice is mainly offshore charters with fishing for grouper and snapper year round and fishing for other species along seasonal migrations.  Charter captains and guides are knowledgeable of the local migrations patterns and know what fish species to target year round.
